Varied sources verify that the contract of the stevedoring firms that employed them was not renewed when it expired in December 2015.

The disengagement triggered issues over welfare, unpaid advantages and the lack of institutional oversight throughout the port system.

Past the return of tally clerks and safety males, the President-Basic of MWUN additionally demanded for “the speedy enchancment of dockworkers’ welfare, together with enhanced remuneration, allowances, uniform situations of service and normal employment practices. A nationwide task-force to implement security and operational laws throughout all port formations, terminals and oil-platform operations.

He aligned with the place of Organised Labour on the return of Tally Clerks and gangway safety males.

He lamented that the maritime business has been severely affected by their absence.

The federal government ought to do all that’s attainable to make sure their immediate return to the business,” Sunmola acknowledged.

Additionally talking, the Minister of Marine and Blue Financial system, Adegboyega Oyetola (represented by the Director-Basic of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Security Company, Dr Dayo Mobereola) burdened security as non-negotiable and known as for collaboration between operators and organised labour to ensure a safe maritime atmosphere.
