The Police Command in Cross River has confirmed the kidnapping of 17 passengers by sea pirates alongside the Calabar Waterways.
The command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, DSP Igri Ewa, who made the affirmation on Saturday in Calabar, stated that the passengers had been kidnapped on Thursday.
Ewa stated that the command had already swung into motion to make sure the ‘fast and immediate’ rescue of the abductees.
In accordance with the police spokesperson, a serving police officer in Akwa Ibom and a preferred politician in Cross River who had been on board the boat narrowly escaped abduction.
A passenger who most popular anonymity informed newsmen that the boat was attacked a couple of minutes after take-off from Oron en route Calabar.
“They stopped our boat, transferred some passengers to their boat, and when their boat was full, they took off.
“Once we arrived on the Inland Waterways Jetty, we had been totally quizzed by the police. Our statements had been later taken earlier than we had been allowed to go residence.”
