The Police Command in Delta State, Nigeria’s south-south, has arrested 12 suspected cultists within the state.
Brilliant Edafe, the police spokesperson within the state, disclosed this to reporters on Monday in Warri.
Mr Edafe, a superintendent of police, mentioned that the suspects have been arrested on Sunday by a mixed crew of the state anti-cult unit.
He mentioned that they have been nabbed of their hideout at Jesse neighborhood in Ethiope West Native Authorities Space of the state, including that the operation was carried out following collection of cult assaults in the neighborhood in current instances.
“Following current cult assaults in Jesse, a mixed crew of state anti-cult unit stormed a prison hideout and arrested the suspects.
“One Beretta pistol and one stay ammunition have been recovered from the suspects through the raid,” he mentioned.
The police spokesperson mentioned that the suspected hoodlums have been within the custody of the police, whereas investigation was ongoing.
There was a surge currently in cultism and related-violence in Delta regardless of police effort to sort out it.
In 2021, the police commissioner in Delta blamed cultists for the killing of cops within the state.
“From information thus far, we have now come to understand that these chargeable for the killing of policemen and carting away their rifles are members of a syndicate.

“Particularly that of cult teams desperately in want of arms and ammunition to achieve superiority over different rival teams in a specific space,” the commissioner, Mohammed Ali, had mentioned whereas reacting to the killing of a police officer at Edjeba Junction in Warri South Native Authorities Space of the state.
In September 2020, two individuals have been killed in Delta throughout a conflict between two rival cult teams in Decrease Erejuwa axis of Warri, in Warri South Native Authorities Space of the state. The victims embrace a 14-year-old boy.
