The South Saharan Social Improvement Group (SSDO) has referred to as on federal and state governments to prioritize local weather change of their budgets to allow efficient mitigation and adaptation measures.

The enchantment was made by SSDO’s Head of Program, Udochukwu Egwim, through the Youth Local weather Justice March in Enugu, held in celebration of the 2025 World Week for Motion on Local weather Justice. The occasion, noticed yearly from September 15 to 21, highlights the rising climate-related points corresponding to flooding and meals insecurity, which Egwim attributed to years of neglecting local weather issues.

He urged governments, residents, and people to embrace a simply transition towards local weather motion, together with local weather financing, adaptation methods, and environmental accountability. “At this time, we commemorate the World Week for Motion on Local weather Justice, a time to lift consciousness of local weather points worldwide,” Egwim stated. “We now have seen unprecedented flooding, rising meals insecurity, and different disasters, largely as a result of years of ignoring local weather points. We name on governments and residents to take motion for a simply transition in local weather coverage.”

SSDO has been coaching younger farmers in agroecology and associated practices to encourage broader participation in local weather adaptation and litigation. Egwim highlighted particular local weather impacts in Nigeria, together with rising meals costs (e.g., garri), meals shortages, flooding, erosion, and unpredictable rainfall patterns affecting agriculture.

He urged each governments and residents to prioritize local weather motion by means of budgeting, decreasing water and electrical energy consumption, sustaining environmental cleanliness, and avoiding improper waste disposal that blocks drainage methods and worsens flooding.

Egwim emphasised that local weather change is a persistent world problem requiring collective efforts for adaptation and mitigation and referred to as on everybody to hitch palms in addressing the disaster.
