Arsenal supervisor Mikel Arteta has claimed the Video Assistant Referee, VAR, mustn’t have intervened in a penalty incident throughout their 2-1 win over Newcastle.
The Gunners thought that they had received a penalty after Viktor Gyökeres was fouled within the space by Nick Pope.
Though referee Jarred Gillett awarded the spot-kick, VAR suggested him to verify the pitchside monitor.
Gillett finally overruled his choice, explaining that Pope had touched the ball.
“Properly, I watched it again and watched it dwell as properly. And if it’s not a transparent and apparent error, VAR mustn’t intervene,” Arteta stated after the sport.
“We’ve been advised this for just a few years, this model of choice once more, and for me, it’s very clear that it doesn’t need to intervene as a result of it’s a penalty.”
Mikel Merino and Gabriel Magalhães scored for Arsenal, as they fought again from a objective all the way down to win at St James’ Park.
