The coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated that the occasion shouldn’t be judged by the outcomes of the current by-elections held throughout 16 constituencies.
The elections held on Saturday, August 16, to exchange lawmakers who died or resigned after the 2023 normal elections.
In keeping with the outcomes introduced by the Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC), the ADC didn’t safe any seat because the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) received 12 of the 16 seats throughout 9 states.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured two seats in Anambra, the Peoples Democratic Occasion (PDP) received one seat in Oyo, whereas the New Nigeria Peoples Occasion (NNPP) claimed one seat in Kano.
Talking on Channels Tv’s ‘Politics In the present day’ on Wednesday, spokesman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, attributed the occasion’s efficiency to the timing of the election and the ADC’s degree of preparedness.
Requested why the ADC had a poor outing within the by-election, Bolaji stated: “We’ve defined it, we’ve issued a press release, we’ve talked about it a number of occasions. For us, the election occurred lower than a month after we got here into the occasion. A lot of the candidates, we didn’t even know them, and that’s why we stated we can’t choose the ADC by that.
“You’re simply speaking about us transitioning into establishing our actual management right now. So, the by-election that you just talked about occurred too early when it comes to transition for the occasion. So, we don’t need to be judged by the end result of that election; there are different elections coming, and we can be prepared for these.
In the meantime, in its preliminary response to the outcomes of the election, the ADC, in a press release attributed its poor efficiency to widespread violence, vote shopping for, and irregularities allegedly perpetrated by the ruling occasion.
The occasion claimed that the election was marred by vote-buying, poll field snatching, voter intimidation, violence and alleged failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS.
