A army officer, Samson Haruna, allegedly set ablaze by his spouse over a home dispute, has died.
Mr Haruna, a lieutenant, was regimental medical officer on the 6 Battalion, Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak Native Authorities Space of Akwa Ibom State.
The deceased, who hails from Benue State, wedded his spouse, Retyit Dalong, in Jos, Plateau State, in April.
He was commissioned into the Nigerian Military in 2024 after finishing his medical coaching.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the incident occurred on 22 September, about 5 months after their marriage ceremony, and that the couple had been embroiled in recurring disagreements over alleged infidelity, which culminated in a confrontation that night time.
The physician was reportedly sleeping when his spouse poured petrol over him and set him on hearth. He sustained extreme burns, and was initially handled at a clinic within the barracks earlier than he was transferred to the College of Uyo Educating Hospital (UUTH), Uyo, the place he later died from accidents.
Military condemns killing
The Nigerian Military has condemned the killing of Mr Haruna and commiserated together with his household over the tragic demise, Punch newspaper reported.
In line with the newspaper, the Assistant Director, Military Public Relations, Lawal Muhammed, in a press release on Tuesday, mentioned the physician died on account of burns inflicted in a home dispute together with his spouse.
Mr Muhammed mentioned preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred after a heated argument between the late officer and his spouse, stemming from a household disaster.

“The Nigerian Military strongly condemns this act of home violence, recognising the crucial of peaceable coexistence and respect inside households. We lengthen our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved household of Lieutenant Haruna.
“The Nigerian Military will proceed to advocate wholesome relations, handle home violence and foster a tradition of respect and dialogue inside households and communities,” Mr Muhammed mentioned, calling on all events to stay calm whereas awaiting the result of the army police investigation.
