The African Democratic Congress, ADC, and former Labour Get together governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, have filed a proper petition to the police over alleged threats of violence issued by the Lagos Chairman of the Nationwide Union of Highway Transport Employees, NURTW, Mustapha Adekunle, popularly often called Sego.

The petition, ready by Inibehe Effiong Chambers and submitted to the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday, follows the circulation of a viral video by which Mr Adekunle was captured warning union members to assist the All Progressives Congress, APC, within the 2027 elections or face penalties. He was quoted as saying that “what occurred in 2023 wouldn’t be allowed to repeat itself in 2027.”

“Our shoppers’ consideration has been drawn to the egregious actions of some members of the NURTW, notably Mr Mustapha Adekunle (also called Sego), the incumbent chairman of the Lagos State Council of the union. In a viral video mentioned to have been recorded on September 25, 2025, Mr Sego is heard issuing direct threats to anybody unwilling to assist President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the 2027 presidential election,” the petition reads partially.

The assertion additionally defined that though Mr Adekunle spoke principally in Yoruba with some English phrases, the translated message “conveys chilling meanings and clear threats of violence.”

Following the emergence of the video, Mr Adekunle was reportedly invited by the State Safety Service, SSS, for questioning over the alleged threats.

Reacting to the event in a press release on X on Wednesday, Rhodes-Vivour defined that the petition was submitted to make sure a documented response within the occasion the threats are finally carried out.

He accused the APC-led authorities in Lagos of counting on intimidation and violence to suppress dissent fairly than delivering good governance.

“Earlier at present, the ADC submitted our petition to the police towards Mustapha Adekunle of the NURTW. We did this for public document, in order that in future it is not going to be mentioned that we didn’t pursue civilised recourse to their aggression and intimidation,” he wrote.

“For over 24 years, the president and his Lagos APC allies have managed this state. After greater than 20 years in energy, they haven’t any credible document of feat to run on. Therefore, they resort to mobilising paid or coerced gangs to stifle opposition, whereas their households proceed to ship their kids overseas to get pleasure from the advantages of excellent governance elsewhere.

“Violence is the final refuge of incompetence. This thugocracy should not stand. We’re the numerous, and they’re the few. In the end, Nigerians will exhibit that we’re not cowards,” Rhodes-Vivour added.
