Former Speaker of the Home of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has warned that the size of killings and bloodshed in northern Nigeria has positioned the area underneath a religious curse, stressing that the disaster should now be handled as a nationwide emergency.

Dogara, talking on Tuesday throughout a panel session on the Nigeria Funding and Industrialisation Summit (NNIIS) 2025 organised by the Northern Elders Discussion board (NEF) in Abuja, stated the state of affairs had gone past strange socio-political considerations.

“With the sort of bloodletting we’re witnessing within the North, in case you are an individual of religion, you’ll know that we’re working underneath a curse as a result of it’s human blood,” the previous Speaker stated.

He lamented that insecurity and poverty within the area had reached catastrophic ranges, warning that Nigeria’s general progress would stay stalled until pressing steps have been taken to deal with the disaster.

“The event of northern Nigeria isn’t a regional prerogative. It should be seen as a nationwide emergency. If the huge variety of individuals we’ve got within the North will not be developed, Nigeria goes nowhere,” he cautioned.

Dogara urged northern leaders and residents to desert a tradition of dependence on exterior options and as an alternative take cost of their very own future.

“We have to depart from doing enterprise as typical and embrace radical, transformative motion. Assist isn’t coming from anyplace — we should take our future into our personal arms,” he declared.
