The Lagos State Chapter of the Take It Again Motion has condemned the continued demolition of properties in Oworonshoki, Kosofe Native Council, which has left hundreds of households displaced and destitute.

The group accused the state authorities of abandoning residents it swore to guard.

In a press release, Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, Lagos State Coordinator of the Take It Again Motion, referred to as for a right away halt to the demolitions throughout the state and the prosecution of officers and collaborators allegedly concerned.

He mentioned that at about 1:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2025, closely armed brokers of the Lagos State authorities stormed Oworonshoki underneath the duvet of darkness, knocking down homes and ejecting residents, lots of whom have been asleep with their households. Based on him, teargas canisters have been fired at youths and group members who tried to report the incident.

“That is nothing in need of state-sponsored terrorism towards the poor. This barbaric train is just not an remoted occasion; it’s a continuation of a demolition marketing campaign that started in July 2023, throughout which over 1,000 properties have been destroyed and greater than 30,000 folks, together with ladies, youngsters, and the aged, have been rendered homeless.

“The agenda is obvious: to dispossess working-class folks of their ancestral land in Oworonshoki and hand it over to the rich elite for revenue. This brazen land-grabbing scheme exposes the depraved collusion between the Lagos State authorities, actual property profiteers, and sadly, conventional rulers.

“We should state clearly that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has blood on his fingers. His authorities has demonstrated as soon as once more that it prioritises the greed of the wealthy over the survival of the poor. No society can declare to be democratic whereas forcefully making its residents homeless at midnight.

The motion additionally demanded enough compensation and resettlement for affected households, and an finish to what it described as mass displacement and land grabbing disguised as “city renewal.” It careworn that the appropriate to shelter is a basic human proper.

“We won’t stand by whereas Lagosians are became refugees of their land. The Take It Again Motion stands firmly with the folks of Oworonshoki in resistance, and we’ll mobilise each democratic and authorized means to cease this wickedness,” the assertion added.

Responding to inquiries, Lagos State Commissioner for Info and Technique, Gbenga Omotoso, mentioned: “The Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed a pause within the demolition for dialogue. Authorities officers have been current and peace has been restored. The demolition is a part of the City Renewal Programme (URP), so the federal government will talk about compensation and different issues.”
