Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed the report implying that he intends to desert his presidential ambition for an additional presidential aspirant.

Atiku was reported to have declared his willingness to step down for a youthful, vibrant and extra acceptable candidate on the platform of the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress throughout an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday.

However the ex-VP has dismissed the report as a misrepresentation of the interview.

In a press release by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, on Thursday, Atiku stated neither the video nor the transcript of the interview implied or urged that he plans to step down for anybody.

The assertion reads: “After an intensive overview of each the video and transcripts of the interview — within the authentic Hausa and the English translation — it’s evident that at no level did the previous Vice President expressly state, recommend, and even suggest that he intends to step down for anybody.

“What Atiku Abubakar clearly and unambiguously stated was that younger folks, in addition to different potential presidential aspirants, are free to enter the competition. He additional confused that if a younger candidate have been to emerge by means of a aggressive main, he would readily assist such a candidate with none hesitation.

“Whereas interpretative journalism is a professional side of reporting, stretching interpretation to the purpose of mischief is unacceptable and should not be inspired.

“For the document, due to this fact, the insinuations attributed to Waziri Adamawa from his BBC Hausa interview are inaccurate and don’t mirror what he really stated.”
