Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday debunked experiences purporting his readiness to step down for an additional presidential aspirant.

In a current interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Atiku may very well be heard saying that he’ll drop his 2027 presidential ambition if a youthful and vibrant Nigerian wins the African Democratic Congress, ADC, main election.

The interview led to insinuation that the previous vp will withdraw from the presidential race.

Clarifying the interview, Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, mentioned in a press release that the viral video was misinterpreted.

The assertion reads: “After an intensive assessment of each the video and transcripts of the interview – within the authentic Hausa and the English translation – it’s evident that at no level did the previous Vice President expressly state, counsel, and even indicate that he intends to step down for anybody.

“What Atiku Abubakar clearly and unambiguously mentioned was that younger folks, in addition to different potential presidential aspirants, are free to enter the competition.

“He additional careworn that if a younger candidate had been to emerge by means of a aggressive main, he would readily assist such a candidate with none hesitation.

“Whereas interpretative journalism is a official facet of reporting, stretching interpretation to the purpose of mischief is unacceptable and should not be inspired.

“For the file, due to this fact, the insinuations attributed to Waziri Adamawa from his BBC Hausa interview are inaccurate and don’t replicate what he truly mentioned.”
