Federation of Worldwide Soccer Affiliation, FIFA, has opened disciplinary proceedings in opposition to the South African Soccer Affiliation, SAFA, for fielding an ineligible participant of their 2026 World Cup qualifier in opposition to Lesotho.
Bafana Bafana received the match day 5 encounter in opposition to the Crocodiles 2-0 on 21 March, 2025 in Polokwane.
South Africa fielded an ineligible participant, Teboho Mokoena within the encounter.
The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder had amassed two yellow playing cards earlier within the qualifiers in opposition to Benin Republic, and Zimbabwe, which triggered a one-match ban.
In line with SABC, FIFA confirmed that SAFA, and Mokoena faces costs of breaching a number of disciplinary laws.
The case has been referred to the FIFA disciplinary committee.
If discovered responsible, South Africa might be pressured to forfeit the results of the match, which might hand Lesotho a 3-0 victory.
